The Tumblr post of Ryan Freitas, got me thinking. How different are the lessons learned in life of a 20′er compared with those of a 30′er? And how different are views from a female perspective?
So I start wondering what I’ve learned so far. I kept the categories Freitas used to maintain a certain structure and comparison.
The opposite sex
- Not responding to your messages, calls… means they are ignoring you. Their way to tell you: ‘Bugger off!’, being pathetic and running after them, won’t help you. Au contraire.
- Handsome guys who take their handsomeness for granted and abuse it, are shallow.
- Men do not read hints. If you want perfume for your birthday, just ask it. It’ll make your life a lot easier once you understand this one.
Happiness
- I am the only one responsible for my happiness.
- Happiness starts with taking nothing for granted and having as less expectations as possible.
Life skills
- Never do anything you don’t like. Life is too short to do things that make you wonder ‘what the hell am I doing here?’
- Never regret anything that once made you smile.
Food
- Cooking is the best way to bond people, especially in the kitchen.
- French fries and croissants make you fat.
- Spend money and time on food, we live from it. But it’s more than just something essential, it creates pleasure and elaborates your senses.
Drink
- If you decide to drink some alcohol and you don’t have obligations the day after, don’t be too strict on yourself. Alcohol won’t hurt you if you know your boundaries
Friendship
- The best friends are the ones who survived your puberty.
- A friend is someone with whom money is never an issue. You just give and take without ever thinking about the balance.
Fashion
- Life is a catwalk. Dress up for every occasion, even if it is to go out for groceries. When you put some effort in your outfit, you’ll feel confident and shine more.
- If you go shopping, take somebody with you who knows your style and who can advise you on what suits you and your style (and not his/her style).
- Your style is what differs you from others.
- Having multiple styles (= being like a fashion chameleon) is more than ok. Having no style is not ok.
Money
- Buying real estate is not necessarily the best investment.
- Making as much money as possible, is not a goal to be ashamed of. It is the way you want to achieve it, that is far more important.
Work
- Get everything out of your studies. Go abroad, take evening classes, learn as much as possible while you are young, once you’re older it gets more difficult to learn new things/languages…
- Trust other people but get to know them first. It doesn’t take long to evaluate if people are good co-workers. Once you found those, stick with them and trust them.
- Be critical. For the work of others but most of all for your own work. More than 50% of your own work will make you laugh when you see it again after a year.
